Location:
The ranch fronts US Highway 285 about one mile north of US Highway
64 just outside the town of Tres Piedras
Its location places it about a thirty minute drive from the town of
Taos, an 80 minute drive to Santa Fe, a little over two hours to
Albuquerque, and about five hours to Denver.
The Land
The ranch contains 466.75 acres of varied terrain including a pine
forest, riparian arroyo land, and sage brush prairie.
The land borders Carson National Forest and BLM on three sides
and is completely fenced with numerous functioning gates. The property
has beautiful, pristine panoramic views in all directions, making this
parcel extremely attractive for the outdoorsman, entrepreneur, and
nature-lover. It has has more than 2 miles of professionally installed
roadway, giving year-round access to all portions of the property.
The forested portions of the property contain beautiful ponderosa pines.
The Arroyo Aguaje de Petaca crosses the property. Its bottomland
contain a lush riparian woodland including cottonwoods and other water

The compound contains all of the ranches buildings and other significant
structures - all conveniently located near each other and with easy
access to the highway..
The Main House
The 5500 sq. ft. main building the large improved rectangle we call the
compound, heart of the 466-acre ranch containing about 4 acres, with
facilities for multiple residential use, built with commercial
contractors only and approved for commercial use.
In 1999, the main building was redesigned as a congregate living space.
The northern rooms were designated for the caretaker of the business,
while the southern rooms were geared towards communal living.
The main house's passive/active solar radiant heating system is backed
up by propane and wood, and was built by a master craftsman of concrete
post-and-beam and pumice-crete , in a southwestern style with many
creative innovations.
The communal living space includes wind-protected front patio, reception
area, office, sleeping and recreation areas, two separate common
bathrooms, laundry/utility room, and kitchen. Next to the main building
is a 40,000 gallon pond with waterfall and wet land, and an outdoor
structure.
The north apartment (caretaker) includes living area, office
space/bedroom, ADA bathroom and recently remodeled kitchen, outdoor BBQ
and patio. The commercial building is ADA accessible with fire alarms
and exit lights. The building adheres to Taos County commercial code.
The main building meets hotel/motel standards. It has a certificate of
occupancy for 19 people.
This 1350 sq. ft. passive solar pumice house has gas and wood heat back
up.
The Corral
This corral has been home to many horses. The land was once home to a
riding stable of 15 horses and a beautiful mule.
The workshop area and construction yard
This 1 1/2 acre workshop area is separated from the main compound.
This workshop area and yard has been separated by wood and wire
fencing from the rest of the ranch, with 3-acre yard, and a workshop,
has been home of numerous cottage industries.
It contains construction equipment such as backhoe, forklift, 8 yd.
cement mixer, 14 yd. dump truck, small crane truck, and bandsaw sawmill,
as well as many shop tools, planer, drill press, compressor, welder, and
saws of all types are protected in 2 Rio Grande railroad cars.
All this equipment, old and new, works for use on the ranch land in its
development. There are many vigas (roof rafters), milled lumber and
forms used in cottage industry.
