The Corner Cottage Earthship

See this new 2 bedroom/ 1 bath earthship now under construction in the Greater World Community.  This earthship lies just past the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge from Taos with easy access to town. This home has an asking price of $420,000 and comes with two beautiful acres.  The roof is on and construction is advancing quickly.

New Video of this home

The home features a comfortable floor plan used in a number of earthships.

As the newest of Michael Reynolds' earthships, it features the most modern earthship design,  features and systems for both comfort and efficiency.  You enter from the side into a large living/kitchen/dining area.  Continuing on, you come to the laundry area and bathroom, followed by smaller of the two bedrooms.  The other end contains the large bedroom.  Over this living room sits a large loft/study area unique to this home.  It is shown is the light blue shaded area on the floor plan below..

The main entrance takes you in through a side atrium which is part of the exterior greenhouse.  Here you see some of the recycled materials used to make an earthship:  Bottles, Tires, cans, and the distinctive colored tiles which are scrap iron from old appliances and other items that would otherwise be headed for a landfill.

One such system is the double greenhouse design that runs the entire south wall of the home.  This innovative design provides superior climate control and comfort to a single wall of glass because of its insulating properties - minimizing solar gain in the summer, while maximizing gain and minimizing heat loss during cooler times of the year.  By opening or closing doors and vents between the greenhouse and living area, the homeowner can better control the temperature and comfort.  One added benefit  this design provides is a wonderful indoor garden space used for growing ornamental or food producing plants using the home's graywater system.

This view shows the great room.  The kitchen will be along the wall ahead, the graywater biocell is on the left.  A loft will occupy the corner to the right to provide extra office, sleeping, or storage space.  To give room for the loft, the floor is recessed here.

While it is under construction at this time, this picture shows some of the distinctive architectural features that are being incorporated into this home.

Since this home is under construction, you can customize it to your tastes and specifications if you decide to purchase it now.  As with any new construction, final payment will not be required until the home is ready to move in.
